Speaking In Tongues

Isn’t amazing the way that things go in cycles? In the 70s and 80s I was unwrapping the latest vinyl LPs at Christmas, in the 90s it was CDs, in the 00s I got an MP3 player and spent weeks ripping all of my CDs – this Christmas I was back to vinyl.

In a remarkably good run of music focused presents I got one DVD (Nick Cave 20,000 Days On Earth), two books (Future Days: Krautrock and the Building of Modern Germany by David Stubbs and Japrocksampler by Julian Cope) and two double vinyl LPs (Goat – Live Ballroom Ritual  and Blackberry Smoke – The Whippoorwill)

Of course I’d been good and that’s why Santa got me exactly what I wanted – it also helped that I had Mrs P circulate a list of the DVDs, books and vinyl I was interested in…………

Blackberry Smoke I got into earlier this year, this is their third album but before this our paths hadn’t crossed. A group of good ol’ boys playing rock from down South is always worth listening to and when I realised that the music was coupled with some serious hair (an ability that left me some decades ago) I knew I was going to like them.

The main aim now is to see them in concert – they played London earlier this year but I was on holiday at the time, they’ve now been added to the wish list on my Concerts Page .

Anyway here I am full of post-Boxing Day food and treats, in a warm room listening to The Whippoorwill – if only every day could be like this!
